Overview

Yemen & Gulf Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Baltimore, offers an authentic Yemeni dining experience that lives up to its rich culinary heritage. Located conveniently on South Broadway, this unpretentious spot prides itself on delivering traditional Middle Eastern dishes that emphasize slow-cooked flavors and fresh ingredients. The restaurant’s atmosphere is straightforward and welcoming, ideal for casual diners or groups seeking hearty meals without the fuss of fine dining.

The menu boasts a variety of standout dishes, with lamb haneeth earning particular praise for its tender, slow-roasted perfection served alongside fragrant basmati rice. Lamb fahsah and lamb mandi also capture the essence of Yemeni cuisine with deep, rich spices that linger pleasantly. For those who enjoy diverse flavors, the clay oven breads—Arabic koboz and naan—complement every dish and embody the warm, rustic character of Middle Eastern fare. Soups and salads provide light, refreshing balance, while bites like falafel wraps and grape leaves offer satisfying options for lighter appetites or starters.

Seafood lovers can indulge in trout or salmon preparations that bring subtle but notable regional influences to the table. Side orders like fries add a familiar crunch, catering to broader tastes without overshadowing the traditional offerings. The tea service is another highlight, pairing well and rounding out the dining experience with soothing warmth typical of the region’s hospitality.

Customer experiences underline Yemen & Gulf’s charm: portions are generous, making it a great choice for sharing with friends or family. Many patrons commend the restaurant’s friendly and personable staff, who maintain a welcoming environment even during busy times. While some dishes like the chicken sandwich received mixed feedback, the overall quality and authenticity remain consistent. It’s clear that the restaurant caters to those seeking genuine Middle Eastern flavors in a casual, approachable setting rather than a polished, upscale ambiance.

Whether you’re visiting during special occasions like Ramadan or dropping by for a quick lunch, Yemen & Gulf offers both dine-in and takeout services that meet a variety of needs. Its target audience includes lovers of authentic Yemeni cuisine, explorers of Middle Eastern culinary traditions, and anyone looking for a fulfilling meal that balances hearty flavors with cultural authenticity. Payment policies might require some attention, as card transactions incur a small fee, favoring cash payments for smoother checkout.

In sum, Yemen & Gulf Restaurant is a noteworthy destination for those in Baltimore craving genuine Yemeni dishes. Its strength lies in the rich textures and seasoned depths of its main courses, friendly service, and a no-frills space that puts the focus squarely on the food. A solid choice for both newcomers to Yemeni cuisine and established fans alike.

Amazing authentic middle eastern food! Serving sizes are plentiful and each dish is made to perfection. My boyfriend and I got hummus, yoghurt, rice, fries, and 2 chicken sandwiches. The chicken sandwich is so big we split one, and will have leftovers for a while after this. Delicious food and we will be returning! Update: Years later and this restaurant is still a staple to my friends and I! We visited during Ramadan and the in-person dining experience couldn’t have been better. Truly authentic, delicious Arabic cuisine. The employees are so kind and personable. They make it an amazing experience each time whether we dine in or take it to go. This is the ONLY place I get Arabic food from!

The food here was AMAZING and we got so much. We didn’t pick up that it’s a family style restaurant, so we really could have split 2 entrees or 1 entrees and an appetizer for our table of 4. The leftovers kept really well and I got to eat them a few more times. Will be back soon! This isn’t a fancy restaurant, so if you’re expecting a fine dining atmosphere, this isn’t that kind of place. Get take out. For a casual meal with friends or quick lunch, I super recommend this place

I ordered the lamb haneeth, the meat was very tender and well cooked. And the rice was also really good. My girlfriend got a veggie lamb curry but that wasn't as good. The food good but I wouldn't say it was the best. But I would like to try other stuff on the menu as well.

We visited Yemeni & Gulf Restaurant during the busy ICNA weekend on a Saturday and late at night, so we expected some hustle—and that’s exactly what we got. A lot of items were out of stock (understandably, given the crowd), but the food we did manage to order more than made up for it. We tried the lamb haneeth, lamb fahsah, hummus, Yemeni soup, chicken curry, and chicken wings. The lamb dishes were the clear winners—tender, flavorful, and full of that slow-cooked depth you hope for in Yemeni cuisine. The chicken wings were on the smaller side, but still tasty. The Yemeni soup was comforting and had a nice depth of flavor. The restaurant itself isn’t fancy or upscale—it’s simple and straightforward—but the food speaks for itself. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and despite the crowd, the wait time was surprisingly short. We also enjoyed trying some of the Palestinian drinks they had available. If you’re looking for authentic flavors in a no-frills setting and don’t mind some menu items being out of stock during peak times, this spot is absolutely worth checking out.

Was in the area and stopped by at this place. We ordered Lamb haneeth, chicken wings, fries, and chicken sandwich. Lamb haneeth and wings were really good. However, the chicken sandwich was not that great. The sandwich bread was burnt and there was no flavor in the chicken. But everything else was delicious. The casher was friendly. I will definitely come back for Haneeth. Lastly, they charge 4% fees if you use a credit card or a debit card. So it will be better if you take cash with you.

We ordered a takeaway and were pleasantly surprised. The pita bread was soft and fresh, perfect for scooping up the flavorful sides. The bhindi curry and salta had a nice balance—mildly spiced with a touch of sweetness and a rich tomato base. The hummus was the highlight—incredibly creamy with a lovely olive oil aroma. They also included a spicy green paste to add on top, which gave a nice kick without overpowering the dish.

This was a nice surprise in Baltimore! The meat was very tender, and the food seemed fresh! I loved the green spicy sauce we were given. The naan was huge! I would definitely go back to try other menu items!
